How has the cultural renewal in the Hudson Valley influenced your art?
What drew to me to paint the Walkway over the Hudson was the idea of renewal, about making this outdoor space useful again. But, how do I capture that in color, contrast, height and depth? Retrofitting the bridge with a walkway gave the Hudson Valley a terrace in the sky which could not be more inspiring. I feel we should when possible retro-fit older structures and give them a second life. We have many older industrial buildings in upstate NY, and we only have recently begun to create the conditions for architectural talent to revive these structures.
